November Art Competition – Theme “Figurative”

Light Space & Time – Online Art Gallery presents a Juried Competition, in which 2D artists from around the world are called upon to make online submissions for the theme “Figurative” for their December 2010 online group exhibition.

Light Space & Time encourages entries from all 2D artists regardless of where they reside and regardless of their experience or education in the art field. A group exhibition of the top five finalists will be held online at the Light Space & Time Art Gallery during the month of December 2010. Awards will be for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. In addition, 2 artists will recognized with Honorable Mention awards.

The theme for November is “Figurative”. The submission process for artists ends November 29, 2010. All winners will be selected, announced and placed on the Light Space & Time website on December 1, 2010 and remain online in the gallery through December 31, 2010. Thereafter, the artworks will remain online in the Light Space & Time Archives with links to the artist’s websites.

The Jane Scally Developing Artist Award

The Jane Scally Developing Artist Award supports an emerging Victorian artist to travel internationally and meet with a selected mentor. The stipend of $10,000 pays for 1 international airfare and 1 month living costs in the destination of choice. The recipient will be required to present a public talk at ACCA on returning to Melbourne, on their observations about current art practice.

Selection Criteria

Artists (under 35 yrs) must reside in Victoria and have completed a recognised tertiary degree in Visual Arts. They must have established an exhibition practice of recognised merit. Applicants are required to provide a 1 page proposal including their rationale for their choice of international destination, a proposed itinerary, their preferred mentor and a draft budget to the value of $10,000. Applications must include a referee statement of support from a curator of repute. This statement should be no longer than 300 words. A referee can support no more than 2 applicants.

Travel should be completed by the end of April 2011

FACE THE MUSIC REGIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS ANNOUNCED

The Push is thrilled to open applications for their */Face The Music Regional Scholarships Program/.*

Thanks to the State Government’s* /Victoria Rocks /*initiative The Push is offering six regional scholarships including three indigenous, artists, artist managers and music business entrepreneurs, a maximum of $300 each to assist with tickets, accommodation and travel costs to attend their *Face The Music Conference, Friday 19 and Saturday 20* *November *at the* Arts Centre *in *Melbourne*.

Now in its third year, *Face The Music Conference* provides artists and the Victorian music community with a platform for professional and creative career development and networking opportunities.

The scholarships will provide regionally based musicians and music industry workers, with the opportunity to access quality information, education and career development opportunities.

*Face The Music Project Manager* *Andrew Kitchen* says, “Through these scholarships we hope to provide young emerging musicians and music business people based in regional areas with a rare and much needed opportunity to access and harness the potential of high level local and international music industry personnel for their own career success. Last year we received applications from disadvantaged artists from all areas of the state, such as Gippsland, Ballarat and Horsham, to help them access the event.”

*2009 Scholarship recipient Dan Strommer*, a musician from Creswick near Ballarat says: “Having the chance to attend Face The Music ‘09 was a great opportunity to gain access to information about the music industry, that would’ve be impossible to find for people living in regional areas like myself. The guest speakers I spoke with were all experts in their field and I found all of them to be very approachable and willing to answer any questions I had. At Face The Music I received some excellent tips on recording and producing and have since recorded my debut EP here in Melbourne.”

2011 Firstdraft Call for Directors

Are you keen to get involved in the emerging arts scene by volunteering time, energy and headspace to developing Firstdraft’s 2011 and 2012 program?

Applications are currently being sought for new directors to join a dedicated and enthusiastic team of emerging artists and curators to run Sydney’s longest running ARI.

_About Firstdraft_ Firstdraft is a non-profit gallery run on a voluntary basis by a group of practising artists and curators. It is one of the longest running artist-run spaces in Australia. Firstdraft asserts the importance of contemporary art production, dissemination and discussion in society, providing a stimulating exhibition space that is professional and accessible for a diverse range of artistic practices and projects.

Directors are appointed to the board of Firstdraft on a voluntary term of two years directorship. The board consists of generally around eight directors, each of whom dedicate their time to roles including:

Programming upcoming 2011/2012 exhibitions Creative input to the programming and special projects for the space Installation and de-installation of exhibitions Liaising with artists Media and Publicity Administration and Finances Website management Gallery maintenance Day to day correspondence Opening night Developing Firstdraft Depot & Studio programs

The next few years will mark an important phase for Firstdraft, which includes developing our studio program at the Depot Woolloomooloo. It is an exciting, rewarding – and also demanding – time to be involved in Firstdraft!!
