PIONEERING VALUES, 15th Media Art Biennale WRO 2013 DL Dec 15

Monday, October 8th, 2012

The WRO Media Art Biennale is the major forum for new media art in Poland, and one of the leading international art events in Central Europe. Since its inception in 1989, WRO has been presenting art forms created using new media for artistic expression and communication, exploring current creative territories and building a critical perspective toward emerging issues in art, technology and society.

The 2011 edition of the WRO Biennale, /ALTERNATIVE NOW/, was held at eleven sites around Wroc?aw—museums, galleries, cinemas, old factory halls and public space, where the works of over 200 artists were shown. The exhibitions, concerts, performances, video projections, installations and conferences were attended by 800 accredited guests and over 40,000 visitors.

*WRO 2013 /PIONEERING VALUES/ *The theme of the WRO 2013 Biennale, marking the 50th anniversary of electronic art, will be the artistic and cultural values that have emerged—and are still emerging—from new media art.

During the WRO 2013 Biennale, titled /PIONEERING VALUES/, we want to present current works that deal with the relations between new media art and the ubiquitous cultural creativity that surrounds it, taking innovative approaches to the intellectual challenges and demands of our era. WRO 2013 /PIONEERING VALUES/ will highlight new visions that allude to the past, distill the present and offer intuitive glimpses of the future.

*THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON THE 27^th OCTOBER*

**THINGS YOU WILL NEED******

Digital Camera with shutter speed control

Light Sources

Tripod

**INSTRUCTIONS******

1?Control the shutter speed of your camera. The camera’s manual is your best guide to learning about shutter speed, but the camera’s settings should have shutter speed functions readily accessible.

2?Find light sources. Anything that is a light source is qualified to be use for light graffiti as long as it glows. Some examples of light sources are LED lights, flashlights, glow sticks, etc. All light sources emit unique light, so try to find as many different sources as possible in order to create some awesome photos.

3?Create streaked lights. There are two major types of streak: thick and normal. LED, LED flashlights and any related light source with magnification lenses will make thick streaks, while a pen light will make thin, “normal” streaks.

4?Set up the camera. Light graffiti needs to have an area on which to draw on, so find whatever setting you wish to use. Next, you will need to place the tripod and the camera facing the direction of the area you want to graffiti on. Then set the shutter speed to a lower setting and take the picture. When taking the picture, figure out how many seconds you have to draw in front of the camera with the light source. The longer the camera takes to take the picture, the more time you have to write, draw and graffiti.
