*Call for Temporary Empty Shop Projects*

What: Call for proposals for temporary empty shop projects for Holmfirth Arts Festival 2012. During this year’s Holmfirth Arts Festival, pop up exhibitions, installations, performances and workshops will take place in Holmfirth’s empty shops. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ and projects responding to this context are particularly of interest. Whether it’s a one day event or an installation open throughout the festival — we want to hear from you. *Call for Silent Short Films*

What: Open call for silent film submissions for Holmfirth Art Festival 2012. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ and we are interested in receiving films that reference this historical movement and the resultant events. You may want to think about films such as Strike, Battleship Potemkin, Man with a Movie camera, Metropolis and Modern Times, when considering content and or stylistic ideas, though this is not prescriptive. It is also worth noting that it is the 100th anniversary of the British Board of Film Classification (originally the British Board of Film Censors). Additionally 1912 saw the screening of the first British feature films; the documentary With Our King and Queen Through India (1912), filmed in Kinemacolor, and Oliver Twist (1912). The films will be live and improvised scored by musicians / sound artists and if you wish to you can use intertitles to narrate the film. We also welcome existing film and live music / sound collaborations and also proposals from filmmakers who would like to perform their own live soundtrack. Who: All Where: Holmfirth When: Friday 15 June 2012, Late Shift 10pm – midnight Duration: Up to 15 minutes, though longer films may be considered at the curators’ discretion. *Call for Musicians & Sound Artists to Live Score Silent Film Night*

What: Call for musicians / sound artists to live score silent films at Holmfirth Art Festival 2012. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ and we are selecting films from an open call that reference this historical movement and the resultant events. New or existing scores are sought for live outdoor performance including impromptu/improvised scores. The screenings and performances will take place in Holmfirth village centre outside the Picturedrome, under covering with power provided if required. We are accepting proposals of any style / genre and we also welcome existing film and live music / sound collaborations and also proposals from filmmakers who would like to perform their own live soundtrack. Who: All Where: Holmfirth When: Friday 15 June 2012, Late Shift 10pm – midnight Duration: Films are up to 15 minutes duration, and proposals are sought for scoring single or multiple films. What: Call for artists’ books & zines for Holmfirth Arts Festival 2012 Zine Library. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ and during Holmfirth Arts Festival 2012, a borrowing zine library will created with a specially commissioned stand in Th’Owd Towser. Holmfirth Arts Festival will be acquiring a new zine collection and zines and artists’ books of all kinds are requested for library borrowing during the festival. Who: All Where: Th’Owd Towser, Holmfirth When: 14 — 24 June 2012 Costs/fees: Holmfirth Arts Festival will purchase one copy of selected artists’ books and zines. *Call for Zine Library / Book Stand Commission*

What: Call for proposals for a zine library / book display stand commission in the upper room of Th’Owd Towser for Holmfirth Arts Festival 2012. We require a unique, temporary structure to house a borrowing library of artists’ books and zines. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the Luddite uprising http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ http://www.luddites200.org.uk/ and we have a particular interest in proposal responding to this context and/or utilising recycled materials. You may also wish to consider seating in your proposal. The Upper Room is approx 8′ x 8′ / 2.5 x 2.5m with an adjacent cell space of 8′ x 4′ / 2.5 x 1.25m. There is one small window and no permanent power supply or lighting so proposals should identify where power supply is required.
